Tips for frying plantains

When frying plantains, it is important to use a neutral oil such as canola or vegetable oil. Olive oil should not be used as it will impart a strong flavor to the plantains. The plantains should be cut into even slices, about 1/2 inch thick. If they are too thick, they will take too long to cook and if they are too thin, they will cook too quickly and be difficult to flip. It is also important to make sure the oil is heated to the proper temperature before adding the plantains. If the oil is too hot, the plantains will cook too quickly on the outside while remaining raw on the inside. If the oil is not hot enough, the plantains will absorb too much oil and be greasy. When cooking, be sure to flip the plantains frequently so that they cook evenly on both sides. Once they are golden brown and cooked through, remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels before serving.
